“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” – Hebrews 13:16 ESV
Fathers in the Field operates on the amazing generosity of Christian men and women who have responded to the call of God to join us in helping the fatherless.
Some can only give $10 a year and others can give substantially more, but all these gifts are precious to us and to our Heavenly Father.
Mr. Arthur Weathersby is a faithful and joyful giver to our ministry. He met our Southern Regional Field Missionary, Kevin Drewry, several years ago and joyfully became a faithful supporter. Arthur’s father left when he was 3 years old and both his older brothers were off fighting in World War II, leaving him to find his own path to manhood. So when he heard how Fathers in the Field steps into the lives of fatherless boys he knew firsthand how vital this ministry is.
“I connected with Kevin, ‘cause he helps Churches to help their men fill-in for a father. No one ever did that for me; the times when a father teaches a son were empty for me. I was accused of things I didn’t do but had no man to defend me. You don’t know who your friends are, don’t know who to trust; makes it hard to make it through the day. There was no one to encouragement me to learn, so I didn’t learn much. In the end, I always felt like an outcast.
Even after I became a Christian that sense of being an outsider lingered. I’m not complaining, God has been good to me even if I am poor by the world’s standards.
So when Kevin offered me the opportunity to partner with Fathers in the Field, I pledged before God to faithfully give what I could and to do it regularly.”
Arthur has terminal cancer but you would never know it. Rather than dwelling on something that might kill him, he chooses to focus on what he can give back to God.
“I don’t have much money but I am just giving back. Not trying to buy my way into Heaven, but I give what I can. If Kevin is willing to give his life for other people I can give him support.
I thank God for Kevin; I can’t do the stuff he does. I got no complaints against my life and I made a covenant with God to support Fathers in the Field until He takes me home, so that’s what I’m doing.”
It’s the faithful generosity of people like Arthur that allow our Regional Field Missionaries to equip churches to care intentionally for fatherless boys across the country.
Please join us in praying for God to raise more Regional Field Missionaries and faithful support partners.
